Pakistan yet to get response from Iran on FTA proposal

The Pakistan’s proposal of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) made following Iranian President Hassan Rowhani’s visit to Pakistan in March when both the countries had decided to boost bilateral trade from $1 billion to $5 billion over the next five years has not yet got response from Iran, a highly-placed source said on Sunday.

At CII Texcon 2015 organised by industry lobby Confederation of Indian Industry in Delhi on October 16, the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) under textiles ministry has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Technological University of Tajikistan to give a boost to bilateral trade between the two countries.

The MoU is aimed at forging close links between the two countries to promote textile enterprises in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, along with allowing India's small and medium-sized enterprises to explore new markets in Central Asia.

A Thai delegation led by Chollada Areerajjakul, Executive Director, Thai Board of Investment, along with representatives of Billiger & Company of Thailand visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to discuss possible investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Chollada Areerajjakul on Friday said that Pakistan is considered to be a potential hub for investment and the delegation has come to explore opportunities in textiles and clothing, jewellery, processed agricultural products and much more for Thai investors.

Bangladesh to increase their two way trade with Canada to $5 billion by 2020

Bangladesh has been enjoying duty-free market access to Canada since 2003 are now focusing to explore potential trading opportunities include expanding Canadian imports of readymade garment, jute, ceramic tableware and kitchenware.

Bangladesh aims to boost its present trade level of $2.0billion with Canada to $5.0 billion by 2020, a business leader said on Saturday.

Masud Rahman, president of Canada Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanCham) said that they plan to increase their two-way trade to $5.0 billion at the end of 2020.
