Pakistan, Turkey to sign FTA next week to bolster current trade

Pakistan and Turkey to tap the massive potential of bolstering trade between the two countries will sign a free trade agreement framework on Tuesday, said Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Sadik Babur Girgin on Friday.

The current trade between the two countries stands at $600 million, but after signing the agreement it has the potential to touch $2 billion mark. The current balance of trade is in favour of Pakistan.

Turkish Economy Minister will visit Islamabad to sign the agreement between the two countries, which have very close cooperation in diverse fields.

The 13th Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition organized by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Taiwan's exhibition management firm Chan Chao International Company and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service Company of Hong Kong will begin in Dhaka tomorrow where more than 1,000 textile equipment manufacturers from 34 countries, including Bangladesh, will display a variety of state-of-the-art textile and garment technologies and machinery, Tapan Chowdhury, president of BTMA, said at the association's office yesterday.

The Tamil Nadu state has nearly 2.69 lakh weavers, the government keen on welfare of weavers has planned to provide machineries to improve the proficiency of weavers and raise the quality of their products.
 
State minister for handloom and textiles S Gokula Indira on Tuesday after inaugurating the special ‘aadi’ in Madurai said that this year the government is keen on distributing 25,000 pirn winding machines and 2,500 pneumatic lifting machines to weavers. The machines would go a long way in improving the working conditions of the weavers.
