Bangladesh government to boost exports has decided to redefine export-oriented traditional and non-traditional products as the contribution of the traditional products to the export basket has plunge to 2.74% in the last fiscal year, while the contribution of non-traditional products raise to 97.26%.

Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) sources said that the recently the Prime Minister Office (PMO) in a letter directed the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) to redefine export-oriented traditional and non-traditional products to accelerate export growth.

Pakistan textile exports have increased by one percent during the first seven months of current fiscal year against the exports of same period of last year. The textile products that witnessed increase in trade included yarn other than cotton yarn export of which increased by 24.86 percent, by going up from $20.987 million this year.

Exports of knitwear also increased by 10.19 percent from $1.306 billion last year to $1.44 billion this year, while exports of bed wear increased by 0.08 percent from $1.254 billion to $1.255 billion.

London Fashion Week is well underway with over 250 designers showcasing their work to a global audience of media and retailers. Pakistan value-added textile exports has witnessed growth by 10pc touching $2.3bn in the first quarter (July-September) of this fiscal year compared with $2.1bn a year ago. While on the other hand, spinning-based exports (non-value added) continue to decline by 15pc to $1.2bn from $1.4bn which were offset by higher exports of valued-added segment (bedwear, knitwear and readymade garments) as per the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.

Bangladesh’s export witnessed 2.07 percent growth riding on the moderate performance of the key knitwear, leather and leather products touching $ 5,142.24 million in the first two months (July-August) of the current fiscal (2014-15).

The figure is, however, 9.16 percent lower than the strategic target of $ 5,660.60 million, according to the latest figures released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

The single month export earnings in August totaled $ 2,159.50 million with a 7.25 percent growth but fell 17.46 percent short of the target.

The GSP Plus status granted to Pakistan by the European Union (EU) has boost textile export, a rise of 5.3 percent reaching the figure to $13.74 billion during last fiscal year (July 2013 to June 2014), as compared to $13.05 billion of the preceding year (July 2012 to June 2013), according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) latest figures released on Wednesday.
