Textile and garment tech exhibition to begin at Dhaka

The 11th Dhaka International Textile & Garment Machinery Exhibition will be held from February 12-15 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka. Over 850 exhibitors will display a wide variety of state-of-the-art textile and garment technology, machinery and parts.

In the last fiscal RMG export was more than $20 billion and the current fiscal target is $23 billion but local woven contribution is not increasing, according to the textile industry sources. As per data available from different sources, the local millers could meet 35 per cent demand four years back when export for overall readymade garment was less than $16 billion.

Bangladesh industrial units going through a tough time due to non-availability of gas and electricity connections required to run the factory thus affecting production. Around 400 potential industrial units with an investment worth Tk 200 billion are bulk gas users, already have set up their establishments taking loans from banks but did not get gas connections yet. They could not go for production due to a lack of gas connections for the last four years.

Govt to provide various incentives to keep home, specialised textiles afloat

Bangladesh textile industry faces a stiff competition from Pakistan, China, India and some other cotton producing countries. As an encourage to this sectors and to keep the home textile and specialised textile sectors afloat, the government has decided to provide various types of incentives, as export earnings from the two areas were on constant decline.

As Bangladesh is dependent on import of cotton, they see no other options but to provide incentives to keep the sectors competitive in the global market, said vice chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Shubhashish Bose.
