Central govt to help Goa revive Kunbi saree

Union Minister of Textiles, Smriti Irani, who is in Goa to commemorate the completion of three years of the Narendra Modi-led Union government, addressing a press conference stated that the central government would go all out to revive and support the Kunbi saree, and such a support would come for the revival of related skills and crafts, which have been identified to be languishing.

The government had initially estimated disbursal of Rs18,000 crore under the Technology Funds Scheme (TUFS) but with the increasing interest from the textile industry and the opportunities that lie ahead government is now looking to disburse textile funds of around Rs 30,000 crore under ATUFS scheme by 2022, said Santosh Kumar Gangwar, union minister of textiles, independent charge on the sidelines of the Make in India event held in Mumbai.

The amount marks a 67% increase in disbursals from its original plan, Gangwar added

Union Minister for Textiles (Independent charge) Santosh Gangwar has put up a written proposal requesting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to connect the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme with the Textile Ministry. The objective of the proposal is to develop basic amenities in the localities of artisans and weavers to motivate them to continue their traditional work.
