Indonesian domestic textile market dominated by import products

Indonesian domestic textile products have continued to lose their foothold in competition on the domestic market over the past five years as imported products control 70 percent of the country’s domestic textile market, which is estimated to reach US$10 billion a year leaving only 30 percent of the market for domestic products, said the Indonesian Textile Association ( API) chairman Ade Sudrajat on Wednesday.

Textile producers in Central Java sees good demand for their textile products from the Middle East countries and hence they are keen to expand their export market to the Middle East, stated the Indonesian Textile Association (API) in Central Java.

Chairman of API Central Java Agung Wahono said that they already have a good demand for their exports from the Middle East countries. However, so far, they have yet to become the main export market for the Central Java textile products.
