SMEs inclusion needed in making of textile policy

The small and Medium Enterprises (SME) textile sector is the majority sector and plays an important part in the economy of Pakistan. Hence the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the federal minister for textiles and industries Abbas Khan Afridi to sharpen the forthcoming textile policy to facilitate the SME sector and address the issues of the majority sector conscientiously.

Pakistan govt announced support price of cotton at Rs3,000

The Pakistan government has announced Rs 3,000 per 40 kilograms support price of cotton. This was informed by Minister for Textile and Industry Abbas Khan Afridi on Wednesday at the National Assembly.

Also, Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has been directed to purchase the cotton from the farmers. The Minister said that the government was committed to protect the interest of the farmers and TCP had started to purchase cotton from the farmers.

The Secretary Ministry of Textile Industry (MINTEX) at the first meeting of Federal Textile Board held on Monday after its reconstitution in July 2014 chairing by Minister for Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi announced that the Pakistan’s textile policy would be presented in the next Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet meeting also restructuring of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC) was also on cards.

Pakistan textile exports which presently stand at $13 billion likely to see a boost with the implementation of textile policy. The textile policy is likely to be announced in the second week of July. Subsequent to the implementation of textile policy the people will see rapid growth in textile sector of the country and there will be an increase of at least $1 billion in the first year and $2 billion from the second year.
