Rise in cotton prices seen on sustained buying by mills and spinners

Rise in cotton price was seen on sustained buying by mills and spinners on the cotton market on Saturday, dealers said. According to market sources, sustained demand by spinners and mills did not allow prices to look down, instead maintaining present levels in the process of trading.

The official spot rate was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 6,550, dealers said. In Sindh, seed cotton prices were inert at Rs 3200-3400, in Punjab, Phutti rates were at Rs 3000-3400, per 40 kg, respectively, they said.

A national-level meeting is convened by the Union textiles minister Smriti Irani to discuss issues faced by the powerloom sector in New Delhi on Monday. This is for the first time that key representatives from power loom clusters across the country have been invited for discussions by the Ministry of Textiles. Power loom weavers from the country's largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub in Surat have been also invited.

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) wants the master zoning plan for textile and garment industry development plan revised as it has become outdated. The industry’s shipments amounted to US$27.5 billion last year and are expected to soar to US$31 billion this year. Therefore, it is necessary to adjust the master zoning plan for textile and garment industry development until 2020 with a vision toward 2030, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa said.

China has long been a top textile manufacturer for the world market. Xinjiang produces China’s best cotton, and more of it than any other region. Textile and garment exports via ports in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to Central Asia and Russia have increased by more than 60 percent from the same period last year.

According to the latest statistics released by Urumqi Customs, China has exported 16.57 billion yuan (about 2.5 billion U.S. dollars) worth of textiles and garments through ports in Xinjiang.

The 10th China-Latin America and the Caribbean Business Summit is set to take place from October 13-14 in Tangshan city. Viscose yarn price climbs in Asian markets

In Jiangsu, 30s spun viscose prices in Xiaoshan inched up US cents 2 a kg in the second week of August while 40s compact sirospun yarn prices were up US cents 4 a kg on the week. Viscose spun yarn prices were largely stable to up in China, despite the continuing uptick in VSF cost. In China, due to sparse VSF availability, local mills cut run rates and in turn raised offers, which met with some resistance. Offers for ring‐spun 30s yarn were raised US cents 2 while VSF prices were up US cents 2-3 a kg.

Blended yarn price rolls over in Asian markets

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices rolled over in the second week of August while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable on the week. 32s PV (65/35) were flat on the week.

Blended yarn prices moved in different directions in Asian markets, largely moved by the cotton markets. In China, polyester cotton and polyester viscose yarn prices remained unchanged although cotton and PSF were cheaper. However, next week may reflect this downtrend.
