Puma preparing for tariff disruption

Sportswear brand Puma has warned that an increase in the price of its products is inevitable should proposed tariffs on more China-made products imported into the US come into effect.

Chief executive Bjorn Gulden has said the brand is already taking action in response to the situation. This has included moving some of its production from China to other countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh and Cambodia.

Kenyan textile industry to enhance quality standards

With the collapse in the local companies like Puma due to poor quality of imported fabrics, the Kenyan textile industry can stimulate its growth again only when the quality standards in the three African countries viz.Tanzania , Uganda and Kenya is enhanced.

The imports are due to fragile cotton value chain capacity that cannot meet demand in terms of volume, price and quantity.

Lidl wants all harmful chemicals out of its textile products by 2020

Lidl, the fourth largest retailer worldwide, wants all toxic textile chemicals out of its textile products by 1 January 2020, a decision taken under Greenpeace’s pressure. A release said, Lidl is aware of its responsibility for people and the environment. It is its priority to eliminate their use across Lidl’s supply chain and operations for all footwear and apparel.
