Transparent electronic devices made from nylon?

Related Keywords: clothing, innovation, material, nylon, polymers, synthetic, technology, Textile

As the microelectronic industry is now shifting toward wearable electronic gadgets and electronic (e-)textiles, the comprising electronic materials, such as ferroelectrics, should be integrated with our clothes. Nylons, a family of synthetic polymers, were first introduced in the 1920s' for women's stockings and are nowadays among the most widely used synthetic fibers in textiles. They consist of a long chain of repeated molecular units, i.e. polymers, where each repeat unit contains a specific arrangement of hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen with carbon atoms.

When waste plastic becomes a resource by way of chemical recycling

Related Keywords: carpet and polyester textile, densified polyester fibers and on PET plastic, monoethylene glycol (MEG) and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) for the manufacture of virgin-grade Loop-branded PET resin and polyester fiber, PE/PA, PE/PET, PE/PP, PET waste, plastic bottles and packaging, plastic value chain, Plastics are indispensable parts, polyester fiber, polyester that appears in many packaging and clothing applications, polyethylene business, polyethylene terephthalate, polymers, polypropylene (PP) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), virgin-grade polymers

Plastics are indispensable parts of almost every sector of the economy, with wide-ranging economic, environmental and convenience benefits in their use stage. But increasingly, the sheer volume of plastics produced (estimated at well over 300 million metric tons annually) presents environmental risks if the material is not captured, and represents a waste of resources if the material is disposed of in landfills.

Alternative to PET

Related Keywords: copolyesters, enzymes, polyester, polyethylene terephthalate, polymerization, polymerize, polymers, properties of PET

Enzymes - 'Furans are mainly produced with enzymes. But for the polymerization, the same processes are used as have been used for PET production for the last 70 years', says Prof. Katja Loos. Toxic metal-based catalysts and high temperatures that are needed for this process mean that it is not very environmentally friendly.

Prize for Pet/Polyester 'Upcycling' technology

Related Keywords: acronym PET, depolymerization technique, PET/polyester plastics, polymers, synthetic polymer source, Textiles

Getting Gr3n pitch perfect - It was clear that we were in for a high octane performance when Dr Maurizio Crippa took to the stage to pitch Gr3n (pronounced ‘green’), as he immediately asked the audience to raise their hands if they had never used a backpack or bought a T-shirt. Needless to say, no hands went up. Dr Crippa’s point was that PET/polyester plastics are ubiquitous in the manufacture of, as he put it, ‘containers for food and drinks, as well as for people’.

PET recycling capabilities becomes extensive for Indorama Ventures now

Narain Aggarwal, chairman, The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council said that, synthetic yarn export has grown in 2017-18, by about five per cent. However, say observers, this is only due to a rise in global demand while China cut production. "The industry as such has not done anything substantial to see export grow.
