Alpek Polyester, an integrated business unit of Alpek, S.A.B. de C.V. and Charlotte, North Carolina-based DAK Americas LLC, has announced that it has joined The Recycling Partnership, Falls Church, Virginia, as an active member in support of the organization’s goals of increasing residential recycling rates and the need for increased availability of recycled materials to enable the creation of circular business models.

DAK Americas to procure PET Recycling Facility from Perpetual Recycling Solutions

The Perpetual PET recycling operations have an approximate annual capacity of 100 million lbs/yr (~45,000 tons/yr) of high quality Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET) flake. This facility will complement Alpek Polyester’s current food-grade PET recycling capacity in Pacheco, Argentina and its fiber-grade recycling joint venture facility in Fayetteville, NC, USA.

The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed and the acquisition is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) is conducting investigations to determine whether or not the domestic industry is harmed by imports of fine denier polyester staple fiber from China, India, Korea, and Taiwan. The ITC is currently scheduled to make its final injury determinations on or before July 9, 2018.

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) earlier, on June 20, based on petitions filed by DAK Americas LLC, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation and Augira Polymers had officially initiated the investigation on polyester fibre imported from Việtnam, China, India, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan.

DOC announced the termination of the anti-dumping investigation on polyester fibre imported from Việtnam.

DAK Americas plans to add 230mn lbs per year PSF capacity at its site in Mississippi

DAK Americas LLC is one of the largest integrated producers of PET resins in the world and the main producer of polyester staple fibers in the Americas announced its plans to add 230 million pounds of polyester staple fiber (PSF) capacity to meet the growing demand in the Americas. The new fiber capacity will be installed at Dak’s PET resin site in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.
