Pakistan textile export loses to touch $2.2 bn if current energy trend persist

The Punjab-based textile industry, which contributes 70% of the total textile sector of Pakistan, fears that if the sector is not given supply of energy, the textile exports loses will go up to $2.2 billion over the rest of current financial year, said Central Chairman SM Tanveer of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma).

Overall textile exports of Pakistan in six months between April and September shows that the country has already lost $1.2 billion on the account of acute energy shortage in Punjab, which is an alarming sign.

Pakistan value-added textile exports has witnessed growth by 10pc touching $2.3bn in the first quarter (July-September) of this fiscal year compared with $2.1bn a year ago. While on the other hand, spinning-based exports (non-value added) continue to decline by 15pc to $1.2bn from $1.4bn which were offset by higher exports of valued-added segment (bedwear, knitwear and readymade garments) as per the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.

IGATEX, the largest textile machinery and accessories exhibition of textile sector in Pakistan organized by FAKT Exhibitions(Private) Limited which was inaugurated by Chairman Pakistan Textile City and Former Advisor to Prime Minister on textile Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig at the Lahore Expo Centre on Tuesday.

The event facilitates the textile industry by creating business opportunities by significantly providing networking opportunities. The event hosts over 550 exhibitors from 35 countries including China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Turkey, Taiwan and Switzerland etc.

Pakistan plans investment of Rs. 100 million to proliferate textile sector

Pakistan has planned to proliferate its textile sector. For this, it has devised to manufacture textile machinery and agriculture implements. About Rs. 100 million are to be invested in this plan. It includes setting up a Common Facility Centre (CFC). The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) has taken an initiative in this context.
 

Swift trading activity was witnessed at the Pakistan cotton market

As mills and spinners took interest in fresh buying to cover their immediate needs some swift trading was witnessed on the cotton market on Wednesday. In ready session, approximately 15000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5350-5550, however, prices of seed cotton in Sindh and Punjab dropped modestly to Rs 2650-2700. The official spot rate increased further by Rs.75 to Rs5375.
 

Pakistan forms six working groups development of textile and garment sector

Pakistan government is taking comprehensive measures for further development of its garment and textile sector to boost exports. One of the measures is that the government has formed six working groups for the development of garments and textile sectors. The textile and garment sectors are offered more facilities to gain maximum benefit from GSP Plus status as well as creating new job opportunities in the country and increasing exports, this was stated by the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif Friday.

The Pakistan Textile exports for the period July-March 2013-14 has show a 8 percent raise, while exports in all value added categories has increased considerably i.e. bed wear by 21 percent, hosiery by 10 percent and readymade garments by 9 percent. Increase in textile exports followed due to the disbursement of Rs.3.5 billion by the government for the textile sector in shape of drawbacks, export finance support and mark up support, according to one year performance report of the government.

During the previous year 2012-13 only Rs. 2 billion was provided by the Government.

Pakistani textile earning during the nine months of FY14 sees a drop of 9 percent

The Pakistani textile sector after performing well in the first half of the fiscal year with the appreciation in rupee by almost 6 percent against dollar in the third quarter of FY14 (Jan-Mar 2014), led to significant drop in profits of the export-oriented textile companies by 73 percent only in the third quarter of FY14.

This significant drop in profitability in the last quarter eroded the overall earnings of the textile sector for nine months. Textile sector recorded a decline of 9 percent in earnings during the nine months (July-March) of FY14.

Pakistan to hold TIFA talks with United States from May 11 to May 15 in Washington to outline a joint five-year plan. Under the plan, Pakistan’s potential sectors will get linkages with the US markets. Pakistan is also looking forward to take US authorities’ help to restore back Disney Corporations order to discontinue imports of $150 million of textile products from 16 Pakistani companies because of non-compliance of the labour laws.
