Pakistan cotton output likely to fall short of target

At the beginning of current season, the Federal Committee on Agriculture had projected that farmers would plant cotton over an area of 3.009 million hectares and produce 14.101 million bales. But Pakistan’s cotton produce is expected to remain lower at around 10.542 million bales in the current season because farmers under-sowed the cash crop on the fears of further drop in prices.

Pakistan is implausible to achieve cotton target of 15.49 million bales set for the current season (2015-16) against the revised target of 13.48 million bales for (2014-15 from 7.7 million acres as it has missed about ten percent of cotton sowing target due to unprecedented rains during the early cotton sowing season, official sources revealed.

Pakistan government as part of measures to improve production of cotton in the country has fixed intervention price at Rs 3000 per 40 kgs for seed cotton phutti that will help save farmers from any possible loss due to price fluctuation. This very step will encourage the farmers to cultivate more cotton in future .

The overall cotton production is estimated as 13.5395 million bales as compared to 12 million bales produced during last year.

Pakistan records an increase of around 4.97 lakh bales during crop season 2013-14

Pakistan cotton crop season has turned out to be a good year as it registered an increase of around 4.97 lakh bales during the crop season 2013-14 March ending as compared to the corresponding period last year. The country has received more than 13.38 million cotton bales during the crop season.

Till April 1, 2014 during fortnight, the country produced around 120,100 bales while during same period last year, the country produced more than 120,300 bales.
