The Ministry of Textiles has been taking several steps to help the designer and weaver community work together and one such step, the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) came up with is the 'Designer Chaupal' at Crafts Museum.

The idea of Designer Chaupal was to have an interaction with the weavers and designers and discuss steps to take their collaboration to the next level.

Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) of the Department of Science and Technology has developed new technologies for promoting the use of natural fibers for clothing and fashion accessories for which Senator Loren Legarda congratulated them. Using natural fibers empowers indigenous peoples communities to put their traditional arts and crafts like the ikat, the t’nalak, abel iloko, the piña, and others in the mainstream textile industry.

A fashion show, 'Walking Hand-in-Hand' was held at Cept University on Thursday organized as part of Archiprix 2017, the show, conceptualized by Crafts+Design+Society (CDS) Art Foundation. It presented a line of couture which were co-created by textile craftsmen and fashion designers to revive and promote heritage textiles.

A three day textile and sari exhibition called Kairi 2016 is hosted by Delhi Crafts in the Capital for desi dressers who are looking for traditional weaves at affordable prices.

The exhibition will offer a variety of time-honoured weaving styles and patterns, including tie & dye, khadi, ajrak, bagru, dabu prints, laheriya, bandhani, kalamkari, banaras weaves, ikat, kota, maheshwari, chanderi, bagh prints, tribal weaves from Bastar, and weaves from South India among others. The price range of the yardage starts at about Rs 200 per meter, while saris start from Rs1,500.

Odisha handloom clusters to promote textile tourism in the State

The Ministry of Textiles has identified Odisha’s four handloom clusters - Berhampur cluster in Ganjam district, Badamba in Cuttack district, Gopalpur I and Gopalpur II in Jajpur district and Sonepur mega cluster in Sonepur district, to promote textile tourism in the State.

The four handloom clusters will soon get tourism tag as these clusters are located in proximity to tourism spots like Gopalpur-on-sea, Maniabandh Buddhist village and Diamond Triangle of Ratnagiri, Lalitgiri and Udaygiri, the Ministry aims to link promotion of tourism and handloom through textile tourism.

Mayan textile exhibition is a privately owned collection of Guatemalan hand woven cottons and silks, that represent a colourful picture of the Mayan Indian culture and life.
 
The bulk of the collection consists of, Huipiles, that are women's traditional wear and are fully embroidered using cotton silk and other colourful threads. Also a collection of Ikat , or (Jaspe) a weaving dying technique is also part of the collection.

Ikat is a century old textile, historically made all over Asia, Central Asia and some parts of Africa. Ikat is also an ancient Indian dyeing technique that brings vintage, handwoven, geometric or zig zag arrow pattern into textile. Hand-dyed and handwoven Ikat is made using both silk and cotton yarns.
 
Pochampally Handloom Park recently organised a four-day Pochampally IKAT art Mela at Aga Khan Hall, in an attempt to revive the dying art of Ikat from the Pochampally district of now Telangana state. which ended on Tuesday, but not before it had charmed Delhiites.
