The Ministry of Textiles has been taking several steps to help the designer and weaver community work together and one such step, the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) came up with is the 'Designer Chaupal' at Crafts Museum.

The idea of Designer Chaupal was to have an interaction with the weavers and designers and discuss steps to take their collaboration to the next level.

Over the time although Muslin Saree has lost its existence but the Jamdani, Benarasi and Tant Sarees of Tangail have survived to this day. The third edition of Dastkar's Summer Weaves a 12 day event that began on Thursday with a focus on summer textile, craftspeople and designers bring to the bazaar season's specials.

The exhibition has put on display hand-painted pattachitra-based textiles, tribal kotpad weaves, jamdani and chanderi sarees, hand-knit crochet garments, and an array of embroideries.

It also features textile technique demonstration to demonstrate how a length of cloth evolves from fibre spun into yarn which the weaver combines one thread at a time to form the beautiful textile.

Jamdani, one of the finest Muslin textiles with its roots in Dhaka District, Bangladesh for centuries, but not yet legally registered. It is a hand woven, fine cotton fabric deftly embellished with intricate motifs that are expertly woven into the fabric. The historic production of jamdani was patronized by imperial warrants of the Mughal emperors. Under British colonialism, the Bengali jamdani and muslin industries rapidly declined due to colonial import policies favoring industrially manufactured textiles.
