Bangladesh fails to gain duty-free access to Indian market due to non-tariff charges

Bangladesh garment industry although has duty-free access to the Indian market, it is unable to gain benefit from the facility due to non-tariff charges, said state minister for Textile and Jute Miza Azam after inaugurating a two-day Indian man-made textiles exhibition in the city.

Bangladesh has been suffering from inveterate trade deficit with India for decades and need to address the trade imbalance issue in a win-win situation.

Textile exhibition coming up in Dhaka to display fine weaves over the past five decades

Bangladesh textile exhibition to be held in Dhaka, where the journey of the fine weaves over the past five decades will be on display. Heirloom pieces will be showcased besides a demonstration of weaving techniques by a master weaver as well as installations of tools used in the production of hand woven textiles. A fashion show will be held to add pizzazz and dimension to the event.

Intexpo Bangladesh 2014, a two day Indian textile exhibition opens in Dhaka today Monday at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in the city. The exhibition has been jointly organised by the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India and Indian High Commission (IHC) in Bangladesh.

Mirza Azam, state minister textiles and jute is likely to open the exhibition.
