Elastomeric Filament Yarn, such filament yarns are commonly referred to as Spandex or Elastanc. Based on the recommendations of the Designated Authority in the commerce ministry, a definitive anti dumping duty has been imposed on it against imports from China, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The petition to levy anti-dumping duty on 'Elastomeric Filament Yarn' from these four countries was filed by Indorama Industry Ltd.

The revenue department has imposed anti-dumping duty that ranged from 'Nil' rate to $ 3.34 per kilogram depending on the producer and the country of export.

Silk fabric exporters are looking for incentives for the industry to remain competitive as raw silk, which is imported from China, was becoming costlier. India’s textiles exports competitiveness is on downward trend even countries like Sri Lanka and Turkey are more competitive in the sector. The Commerce Ministry is considering bringing out its own strategy paper for the sector to enhance competitiveness of textile exports.

Textiles Ministry, too, is in the process of rolling out a National Textiles Policy, which aims to achieve USD 300 billion exports by 2024-25 and envisages creation of additional 35 million jobs.

Government to look at ways to check flow of imported Chinese fabric into India as it wants to encourage local textile producers. The Textile Ministry has put forward the issue of increasing Chinese textiles import with the Commerce Ministry with an urge to stop this, said Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar.
