CMAI in association with TCS develops software on GST compliance

Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), the premier apparel body, in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has developed software to alert the garment manufacturers about GST (Goods and Services Tax) compliance.

The unique software is being launched today for the betterment of textile manufacturers at a minimal cost. From cotton traders to ginners and fabric manufacturers, anyone found non-compliant of the GST will be identified through this software.

Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani speaking after inaugurating the 63rd National Garment Fair in Mumbai yesterday congratulated the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) for organizing largest ever apparel trade show which facilitates the marketing of apparels.

Mrs Irani has appealed textile industry to join Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana for the benefit of garment workers immensely, as largest number of people work in the textile sector in the country after agriculture.

The government to announce the new national textiles policy in July after the cabinet approval aims at creating 35 million new jobs by attracting foreign investment, Textile secretary S K Panda said on Mondy after inaugurating the 61st National Germent Fair in Mumbai.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Textiles Santosh Gangwar, who has been working on the long-delayed policy since he assumed office last year, however, did not give an exact time-frame within which the policy could be expected.

Indian readymade garments sector to spur

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s announcement of duty-free entitlement for import of trimmings, embellishments and other specified items to five percent of the value of their exports, from the current three percent is a good boost for the readymade garment sector of India.

This move will help Indian manufacturers to compete with other countries in getting more orders from global retail sourcing entities, such as Walmart. As it will help bring down the cost of readymade garments meant for export by two to three percent.

Santosh Kumar Gangwar India's textiles minister while inaugurating the 59th National Garment Fair (NGF), organised by the Clothing Manufacturers' Association of India in Mumbai stated that textile has huge potential and there will be everything in place to improve its exports.

The 59th NGF is India's biggest apparel trade show with 730 brands on display and is expected to generate a business of around Rs 500 crore.
