IKEA increases use of sustainable cotton in products

IKEA, a Swedish company registered in the Netherlands that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture (such as beds, chairs and desks), appliances and home accessories. In 2013, the Swedish furniture company in total used 110,000 tonnes of cotton in 2013, which uses around 0.6% of all cotton grown around the world, sourced 79,000 tonnes of cotton from more sustainable sources.

Pakistan yields cotton around 13.1m bales against forecast of 13.5-14m bales

Pakistan, so far harvested around 13.1 million bales, against the initial forecast of around 13.5-14m bales by the government and private estimates. Sutlej Textile plans expansion of J&K plant investing Rs.175 cr

As part of their expansion and modernization plan would be investing Rs.175 crore in their dyed yarn unit in Jammu and Kashmir. It will add 31,000 spindles to the existing 2,60,000 spindles.

SK Khandelia, CEO and President said that they have taken a term loan of Rs.131 crore and another Rs.44 crore will be used from internal accruals for this expansion project.

Around 400 potential industrial units with an investment worth Tk 200 billion are bulk gas users, already have set up their establishments taking loans from banks but did not get gas connections yet. They could not go for production due to a lack of gas connections for the last four years.

Cotton price remained unmoved as a result of normal export and domestic demand. Kapas or raw cotton also traded flat. About 60,000-62,000 bales of cotton arrived in Gujarat and 2 lakh bales arrived across the country.

Gujarat Sankar-6 cotton was quoted at Rs.46,600-46,700 for a candy of 356 kg. Kapas was traded at Rs.1,050-1,085 for a maund of 20 kg and gin delivery kapas stood on Rs.1,085-1,100 a maund in Rajkot.

On the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, kapas April contract increased by Rs.4 to Rs.980.50 a maund, with an open interest of 18,037 lots.
