Viscose fibre prices up for second consecutive week,

Asian viscose staple fibre markets in Asia although described as quiet in the week ended 17 January 2014, prices continued to move up. However, as downstream mills in China were in the process of idling for Lunar New Year holiday, they were largely unreceptive to new prices and were not interested in building stock before the holidays. This implies that they expect prices to soften post holidays. Prices in India and Pakistan generally rolled over in an inactive week.

Ethylene firms up entering 2014, paraxylene moderates in Asia

Ethylene prices were firmer in Asian markets amid tight regional supply and warming up demand in the week of 3 January. The markers rose US$20-30 week on week to be assessed at US$1,519-1,521 a ton CFR Northeast Asia and US$1,474-1,476 a ton CFR Southeast Asia. In Europe, ethylene markets were quieter and prices mostly rolled over while ample supply moderated ethylene prices in US.

Acrylic fibre prices declines after weeks of stability

Poor demand and lack of cost support had its toll on the acrylic staple fibre markets in Asia. Last week buyers largely held sideline stance expecting further fall in the settlements. Discussions were largely in tandem with the downslide in settlement prices. However, liquidity was still moderate and producers continued to deliver goods running at low operating rates. With sentiment hard to rebound in absence of bullish signs, ASF prices are likely to remain range bound at low levels.

viscose textile markets in Asia continued to remain on the weaker trend and discussions mostly softened in China in the viscose staple fibre segment with downstream players still consuming raw material inventory amid bearish yarn market. Some spinners even reduced buying and were seeking lower priced goods amid the sluggish sentiment.
 

Asian PTA prices hit a 16-month low, polyester losing cost support

Asian purified terephthalic acid prices fell in week ended 22 November, dragged down by a bearish polyester market amid high operating rates of PTA plants in China. Prices hit a 16-month low on rising supply and weak demand. European PTA producers expressed unhappiness over the initial contract price settlement for feedstock paraxylene. Meanwhile, November US terephthalic acid prices are expected to move down after contracts for feedstock paraxylene was settled lower in the week.

Industrial output disappointing, textiles appear better in September

The estimates of Index of Industrial Production for the month of September 2013, released by the Central Statistics Office, indicate a disappointing performance of the manufacturing sector during the month. While the general Index was up 2%, manufacturing growth was just 0.6% against the backdrop of the decline of 1.6% recorded in September 2012. Mining output was up 3.3%, higher than 2.2% of last year power generation increased substantially by 12.9% in September 2013 compared to 3.9% of September 2012.

Polyester poised for good growth ahead, may see surplus in 2018

Viscose price seen gaining in China on antidumping result

Viscose staple fibre prices were basically on the southward trend in the first half of the week ending 8 Movember. In China, after the ruling of the anti-dumping investigation on dissolving pulp was announced on 6 November, major VSF producers, Fulida and Tangshan hiked their offers with others following the trend. Since Thursday, trading prices tended to remain stable. However, trading sentiment was mixed, but will become clearer in coming week and price will be on steady uptrend in a short term. VSF prices in India and Pakistan were seen rolling over from last week.

Polyester markets recovers in Asia, PSF producers in China raise offers

Polyester filament yarn markets remained firm in the week of 8 November in Asia and prices were seen rising for some specs. Offers for POY and FDY were hiked further sporadically in China while DTY remained stable. However, trading sentiment was lackluster, and low prices vanished gradually, as participants carried a cautious attitude amid wait-and-see sentiment. In Shengze, trading sentiment for PFY was passable as buyers cautiously bought for stocking amid rigid demand. In Pakistan, trading sentiment was insipid and small hikes were made to sporadic offers DTYs.
