The 17th Vietnam International Textile and Apparel Accessories Exhibition is slated for this November, expected to witness about 500 firms from countries including Vietnam, China, India, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan (China), across about 700 booths, according to the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association.

The Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association (VCOSA), the Vietnam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS) and the US Cotton Council International (CCI) to jointly organize the Cotton Day 2017, the first of its kind event in Vietnam, connecting Vietnamese firms in the industry for sustainable partnership and development.

The event main aim is to connect Vietnamese apparel enterprises with partners and suppliers and gives Vietnamese companies the latest information on global supply and demand for cotton.

Vietnam, the world's fifth largest garment exporter, will import 1.2 million tonnes of cotton this year, which represents an increase of about 19 percent from the previous year 2015, an industry official said on Wednesday.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Son of the Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association said that most of the imported cotton will come from the United States, which has been Vietnam's top supplier of the raw material, followed by India, Brazil and Australia.

The move is aimed to meet rising demand from its textile industry while domestic output is insignificant.

Vietnam has seen significant inflow of investment from the US in its textile and garment sector in recent years, one of the many US investors is Huntsman Textile Effects, a supplier of dyes and chemicals under the US-based Huntsman Group, in anticipation of the potential from the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Huntsman’s warehouse located in the Long Binh Industrial Park in the southern province of Dong Nai after only six months of operation since its opening in mid 2015 is operating at its full capacity of 250,000 tonnes.

Vietnam Textile Summit 2015 was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from June 25th -27th bringing together Vietnamese textile associations, textile enterprises, large-scale suppliers and buyers from all over the world to discuss global market trends. The chairman of Vietnam Cotton and Spinning Association (VCOSA) Nguyen Van Tuan at a conference in Ha Noi on Thursday announced that the apparel production scale in Asia will expand 2.4 percent by 2030, accounting for over 60 percent of global outputs.
