Cotton prices up on strong demand for quality lint by spinners

Prices up over sustained demand for quality lint from needy spinners to meet their seasonal requirements at cotton market on Monday. Most of the deals were finalised at higher rates. Spinners striving to cover up their positions also booked some lower grade cotton at higher price. The ginners are holding less than 0.6 million bales, brokers said.

Fast depleting stocks held by ginners and shortage of quality lots continue to panic small spinners. Fear of delay in arrival of next crop due to water shortage in lower Sindh was also a matter of great concern for the textile industry.

At the cotton market in the backdrop of fast dwindling stocks of quality lint amid rising demand, cotton prices scales to season’s new peak of Rs7,800 per maund on Friday. On the other end, ginners were holding back their stocks anticipating further rise in prices due to which trading activity remained moderate.

However, a big deal of 10,300 bales from Khanpur was finalised between a ginner and spinner at season’s high Rs7,800 per maund late in the evening. Another deal of 400 bales from Dherki was done at Rs7,700 per maund.

Aggressive buying of quality lint by spinners was witnessed at cotton market on Friday keeping trading activity brisk. A broker said that the rush could be due to the latest cotton production figures which have shown a sudden dip in phutti arrival of phutti (seed cotton).

Apparently, spinners are not willing to take any risks and readily entered into deals even at higher rates. A salient feature of cotton trading was that most deals were of good quality, big lots.

Range-bound trading was witnessed at lint market

At the lint market focus remained on fine lint keep trading activity range-bound, and the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate remained unchanged at Rs5,3000 per maund. During the trading session, buyers made forward deals for quality lint for a month period on slightly higher prices at around Rs 5,650 per maund, said floor brokers. Around 300 bales changed hands.

Cotton market on Wednesday witnessed moderate trading activity with buyers making deals for quality lint on slightly higher prices at around Rs 5,375 per maund during the trading session. Roughly1000 bales changed hands. In domestic market, buyers would remain eye on quality lint on the back of growing demand of cloth and yarn.

The Pakistan textile industry as a whole is presently in distress over dwindling cotton stocks and expected delay in the arrival of next crop due to late sowing of new crop (2015-16), according to brokers.

Continual demand for quality lint and running down with cotton stocks in the country pushed the cotton prices up on Thursday.

Ginners on the other hand are in no hurry to dispose of their stocks in anticipation of getting even higher prices. They entertained only those bids which had been called at higher rates.

Selective buying was seen amid tight supply at Pakistan cotton market

Pakistan cotton market witnessed selective buying again on Friday amid tight supply of quality lint. Only needy buyers were seen covering their immediate requirement.

In the ready session, around 7,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4400 and Rs 5200. The prices of seed cotton in Sindh were at Rs 1900 and Rs 2350 and in Punjab rates were at Rs 2000 and Rs 2650. While, the official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 5000
