MEG price declines in Asia

Asian MEG markers declined US$15 a ton CFR China while CFR South East Asia in the second week of May. Mono ethylene glycol prices were range bound at low levels that week, with prices down from previous week.

Despite the rally in crude oil, PTA futures softened and MEG prices generally went ranged bound following the slump opening the week.

Reports were heard of aggressive selling of swaps by several large futures traders on the Huaxicun Commodity Exchange, as well as selling of physical cargoes through the week.

Blended yarn price inches up in India

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices rolled over in the second week of May while 45s PC combed yarn prices remained unchanged on the week.

In China, blended spun yarn prices remained unchanged in the week as cotton prices were stuck at the same level on the domestic market while import prices were falling. Spinners were waiting for a clear direction of the future trends before changing their offers.

MEG price dips in Asia, US

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined in Asian and US markets while they were flat in Europe in the first week of May.

Asian MEG markers declined US$18 a ton the CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the first week of May. In China, central offers dropped gradually during the week.

In Asia, MEG market weakened somewhat and downstream polyester makers resisted to replenish raw material, as there were signs of commodities and crude oil to retreat.

The most actively traded June MEG futures contract on the Huaxicun Commodity Exchange fell from Monday to Friday.

Blended yarn price rises again in India

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s and 45s yarn prices in the first week of May were both down US cent 1 a kg due to weak Yuan.

Blended yarn markets in China were slowly returning to profits after experiencing serious crisis in the past. Cotton prices were moving up in the past two weeks, while PSF and VSF prices were moderating.

In India, polyester-cotton prices increased during the week and posted 5.6% increase over the month as cotton prices rose and polyester and viscose continuing their firmness.

Polyester yarn price inches up in Asian markets

In Shengze, offers for 32s and 45s polyester yarn rose US cents 4 a kg in the last week of April. In Qiangqing, offers for 32s were up US cents 2-4 a kg on the week.

Spun polyester yarns offer in Shengze were stable to up on the back of mild enquiry and selling atmosphere.

In Qiangqing, offers were raised somewhat in spite of sporadic deals that week. After two weeks of replenishment, yarn producers were more cautious in buying PSF and slightly added inventories when prices surged.

PTA price gains amid higher upstream prices

Asian PTA markers gained US$3 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast in the last week of April.

Purified terephthalic acid prices inched up in Asian markets amid higher upstream prices. Day on day the CFR China price slipped as September PTA futures on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange slumped.

In China, PTA market fluctuated in a wide range, with a large spread between the high and low end. Some suppliers continued to buy goods, and supply to the spot market tightened somewhat.

MEG price dips across all regions

Asian MEG markers fell US$18 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the last week of April.

Mono ethylene glycol spot prices declined in Asian markets following aggressive selling of Yuan denominated swaps on the Huaxicun Commodity Exchange, which pressurized both physical forward and prompt prices.

In China, as commodity market swung significantly and demand for additional polyester saw end in late April, MEG market were less brisk, with prices falling.

Blended yarn price rises in Asian markets

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were up US cents 3 a kg in the last week of April while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over on the week. In China, the market was slowly recovering due to continuous fall in cotton prices from excessively levels.

In India, blended yarn prices rose on the domestic market due to recovery of cotton prices. In Ludhiana, polyester-cotton yarn prices increased 3% on the week.

30s (65/35) PV warp yarn prices further gained INR1 a kg (up US cent 1) in Indore market. In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices jumped INR5 a kg (up US cents 6).

Polyester yarn price climbs in Pakistan, stable in China

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn rolled over in the third week of April and 45s were stable on the week. In Qiangqing, offers for 32s were steady during the week.

Spun polyester yarn offers were stable that week in China as PSF markets kept rising and may pull up spun polyester market in coming weeks. However, terminal demand showed no sign of rebound and sale of spun polyester yarn was moderate.

Purchase of PSF was only to meet rigid demand, particularly after the additional volumes bought that week. Buyers will be more cautious going ahead.

PTA price edges up amid firm futures market

Asian PTA markers were up US$2 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast in the third week of April. In China, many deals were concluded at US$615 a ton, a level before the market went up. Those were mainly bonded goods on one-day trip bought by polyester producers.

Purified terephthalic acid prices rose on the week amid firm futures markets while Hanbang and India’s Reliance will restart their PTA lines soon. Prices declined opening the week to remain stable later and to rise midweek but ending the week flat.
