Waste-to-fiber startup gets a new investor

Singapore-based RGE has joined H&M and a number of other groups to invest in Finnish waste-to-textile-fibres start-up Infinited Fiber Company Oy (IFC). RGE has also signed a co-operation agreement with the Finnish company to help commercialise its technology.

Since early 2018, IFC has been operating a 50-tonne per annum pilot plant in Espoo that produces textile fibres testing purposes. H&M and VF Corporation are among the groups testing the fibres the Espoo operation has produced so far.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) with an aim to achieve sustainable textile production, plans to launch Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT), the second phase of its advisory service in Dhaka.

During the second phase, the World Bank arm targets to annually save 32 million cubic metres of water and 3.8 million megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity in 250 weaving, spinning, wet dyeing and finishing factories.

The garment-textile sector is the second largest earner of foreign currency for Vietnam, earning over $27 billion from exports per year. To help Vietnamese garment-textile outsourcers save over 20 percent of water and energy consumption, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group held a workshop reviewing the programme on enhancing resource-efficient consumption in HCM City on Wednesday.

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets has partnered with Levi Strauss & Co (LS&Co) manufacturer of famous jeans wear to develop a global programme to reduce water, energy, and chemical use in textiles factories in Bangladesh.

The new partnership would build on the extensive experience of IFC’s Bangladesh Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT) programme, focusing on providing advice on implementing cleaner production practices in over 165 textile factories in Bangladesh.

In this regard, the first buyers’ meeting was held in Pakistan on December 15-16 with the support of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
