The EU and Japan textile and clothing industries met in Brussels on 10 July 2017 to exchange views about their respective industries’ status, their relationships and the political conclusions of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between Japan and Europe.

With the European Union (EU) opening duty-free market for 9 600 products including textile by October, Swaziland’s textile industry will again retain its vibrancy that was impaired due to the loss of African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) almost two years ago.

Through the implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) countries are allowed to export goods to the EU, duty-free under AGOA. The country is in the process of ratifying the agreement with the assistance of the EU.

Indonesia benefiting less from the partnership to ask Japan for review

Indonesia to expand bilateral ties with the East Asian nation plans to urge Japan to review the economic partnership agreement. The Indonesia-Japan economic partnership agreement (IJ-EPA) was implemented by both countries since 2008 and after a five-year period, both parties have been given the chance to re-evaluate the execution.

Indonesia claims it has benefited less than expected from the partnership and has requested a review several times, including the latest effort made during the term of former trade minister Muhammad Lutfi.
