Kazakhstan domestic cotton varieties exported to eleven countries

Kazakhstan did not have a single cotton variety of its own way back in 1991, but currently the country has 10 varieties and 5 of them have successfully passed state tests, The country is now exporting its cotton varieties to 11 countries — Russia, Belarus, Germany, Latvia, Moldova, China, Belgium, Iran, Ukraine, Italy and Korea, said Askar Nametov, chairman of the board of the National Agrarian Scientific-Educational Centre under the agriculture ministry.

Bangladesh government has set up 3,050 demonstrations plot for a project which has been initiated to increase cotton production for which they have provided training to over 60,000 farmers in modern cotton cultivation, said Begum Matia Chowdhury, agriculture ministry of the country.

Chowdhury also added that the government has initiated multiple programmes and projects such as Expansion of Cotton Cultivation Project (Phase-1) which was undertaken in financial year 2014-15 at an investment of Taka 105 crore.

The Textile Ministry is looking to introduce a revamped Technology Mission on Cotton said Textile Commissioner Kavita Gupta. The mission will have four parts. The first two will deal with cotton productivity and will come under the Agriculture Ministry. The third and fourth missions will be under the Textile Ministry. This initiative is to give a thrust to the cotton sector.

The Agriculture Ministry in order to boost jute production has proposed hike in minimum support price (MSP) of raw jute because its cultivation has been declining in the recent year.

In the Cabinet note, Agriculture Ministry has proposed an 18.5 percent increase in jute MSP to ₹3,200 a quintal for 2016-17, which is in line with the CACP’s recommendation, according to sources.

In 2015-16, the jute support price was fixed at ₹2,700.
