Li Peng Enterprise Co and Zig Sheng Industrial Co - Nylon makers, saw an increase in their revenue growth as downstream companies increased their procurement amid expectations of future price increases. The revenue growth posted 3.6 percent and 6.31 percent respectively for last quarter.

Last quarter, Li Peng, the nation’s largest nylon maker, posted revenue of NT$6.73 billion (US$22.38 million), up from NT$6.5 billion the previous quarter, according to a company filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) cleared the proposal on hiking minimum support price(MSP) of jute. Government has hiked the minimum support price (MSP) of jute by Rs 100 to Rs 2,400 per quintal for 2014-15 season. The hike in MSP is expected to prompt farmers to increase investment in jute cultivation and boost production.

Jute MSP of TD-5 variety has been increased by Rs 100 per quintal, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the CCEA meeting.

The Advisory Committee on Handloom Reservation Act had put forward recommendation to amend the definition of handloom before the textile ministry. The Textile Ministry on Thursday said that the existing definition of ‘handloom’ to be retained.

It clarified that no change is contemplated after a panel set up for the purpose recommended. ‘Handloom’ which has been defined as 'any loom other than power loom' under the Handlooms (Reservation of Articles for Production) Act, 1985.

Cotton prices saw an upward trend due to short phutti (seed cotton) supply and ginners demanding higher rates on Wednesday. Trading activity continued to remain dull and listless as spinners reluctant to pay higher prices.

Another reason which pushed cotton prices up was a large participation of Pakistani textile sector in Heimtexil fair being held from Jan 8 to 11 in Frankfurt, Germany.

They added that the expectations that 226 companies from Pakistan displaying their textile products in the fair could get large export orders are presently inducing sentiment.
