The largest market for cotton yarn China, has imposed around 3.5 per cent import duty on yarn from India under Asia pacific Trade Agreement (APTA), while duty free access is given to Vietnam.This has led to large capacity expansion in yarn manufacturing in Vietnam, which has surpassed India to become the largest supplier of cotton yarn to China.As a result, Indias cotton yarn exports to China have decreased by 49 per cent during 2013-14 and 2016-17, while Vietnams exports of cotton yarn to China have increased by 88 per cent during the same period.

The export entitlement quota for readymade garments & knitwear, yarn and fabrics & made-ups to the US, Canada and European Union extended for one year with effect from 1 January, 2017.

As per a notification issued by Textiles Ministry, it states that the Union Government decides to extend the operation of the residuary provisions of yarn, fabrics & made-ups export entitlement (quota) policy for a further one year with effect from 1 January, 2017,

Similarly, it also extended the operation of the residuary provisions of garments and knitwear.

Raymond, fabrics and garments company as part of its overseas push is now planning to build up its brand presence in the Middle East and South Asian countries. The company is also supplying fabrics to leading garments manufacturers in the US, Europe and Japan.

Sudhanshu Pokhriyal, president (suiting) Raymond Limited said that their products get acceptance in 55 countries. Now they are aiming to make the brand Raymond even stronger in the Middle East and South Asia.

He said that the company recently opened an office in Dubai, which would look after the middle eastern markets.

The Karnataka government on Wednesday cleared five investment proposals worth Rs.2,050 crore in diverse sectors with job creation potential for 3,532 people. The State Government will also be sending a team of 20 women entrepreneurs from Karnataka to participate in the three-day international conference and business fair at Austin, US from June 23. Additional chief secretary K Ratna Prabha will be leading the delegation.

One of the proposals cleared is Himatsingka Siede, a Bengaluru based home textile major proposal to invest 1,325 crore in Hassan to manufacture bed linen.
