Ms. Smriti Zubin Irani, Minister of Textiles, Government of India, yesterday underlined the need to address the issue of lack of manpower in the technical textiles for which industry needed to first define the requisite skills. After defining the skills, the task would be to bridge the gap in which the industry would be supported adequately by the Government of India.

The 10th edition of India International Textile Machinery Exhibition 2016, the largest textile machinery and accessory exhibition in India is to be held from 3rd to 8th December 2016 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, India. Spread over 1,50,000 sq. mtrs, with expected participation from 93 countries and strength of about 1000 exhibitors from across the globe in 17 chapters spanning the textile segment from raw material to finished products, India ITME 2016 is the focal event for the textile and textile engineering industry in India and in the neighboring region.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Textiles, Santosh Gangwar, at the annual conference of State textiles ministers held yesterday announced that the Textile Ministry plans to launch a venture capital fund with an initial corpus of Rs.35 crore in association with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to support start-up entrepreneurs in the sector.

Changes proposed in Indian labour law immensely for textile sector

To achieve textile growth targets skilled manpower of 35 million will be required by 2024-25. Also, initially training needs to be increased to generate the supply of about 1 million trained workers annually and to ensure that in the next three years, the entire new workforce entering the sector is formally trained and certified.
