South Carolina now home to Chinese textile manufacturers

The prospect of a sweeping Pacific trade agreement led by the United States, and excluding China, is driving Chinese yarn companies to gain a foothold in the lucrative U.S. market. China, once the epitome of cheap mass manufacturing, textile producers from formerly low-cost nations are starting to set up shop in America. It is part of a blurring of boundaries between high- and low-cost manufacturing nations that few would have predicted a decade ago.

Standard Textile expanding its existing Union County manufacturing facility

Standard Textile, a leading global provider of end-to-end solutions for the institutional textile and apparel markets, is expanding its existing Union County manufacturing facility located at 100 Highpoint Drive in Union with a $5 million capital investment to accommodate increasing terry towel finishing capabilities. This was announced by S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley’s office on Wednesday.

Keer Group, Chinese textile manufacturer and yarn spinner to invest $218 million to establish its U.S. operations, which will be named Keer America Corp., in Indian Land, S.C. The investment includes construction of a 230,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and the creation of 501 jobs to Lancaster County, South Carolina over the next five years.

The Keer Group is building its first facility outside China. But in exchange for bringing jobs to South Carolina, the company will pay less than half of the property tax rate and receive a 7.7 million dollar bond to help pay for construction.
