Conditions at cotton market on Thursday remained steady as buyers kept looking for quality lots and strong demand for quality lint from spinners who strived to build up their inventories. However, shortage of quality lint disappointed many.

With the current cotton season (2017-18) fast nearing its end, some panic was seen among spinners who were still short of cotton stocks.

The issue of shortage is primarily related to small spinners who were unable to import cotton to meet their seasonal demand, brokers said.

As per its fortnightly seed cotton (Kapas/Phutti) arrivals report for the current season (2015/2016) till the 15th of February, 2016, the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) said the ginning factories received 9,687,118 lint equivalent bales.

Some trading activity at the lower level was seen at cotton market on Tuesday as buyers were mostly reluctant anticipating fall in prices in the coming days.

However, spinners on their part were also cautious as they are not getting right price for cotton yarn as the market is sluggish and prices are under pressure. Trading remained restricted and limited as some needy mills lifted small lot deals,.

Ginners, who are holding very little stocks of around 240,000 bales, also seem to be in no hurry to dispose of their stocks at current price
