Slow trading activity witnessed at the cotton market with prices remaining steady in the midst of short supply of quality lint which is the current major issue with rising demand from textile industry.

Although many exporters of home textiles who participated in the recently concluded Heimtextil, Frankfurt trade fair returned with good number of orders from European, US and Middle Eastern buyers but this did not reflect in cotton trade.

Import prospects are also diminishing because India itself is faced with short crop while global cotton prices have also risen considerably.

Moderate trading activity was witnessed at the cotton market with strong physical price. Buyers made a month forward deals for all grades on bargaining prices at around Rs 5,125 per maund during the trading session,said floor brokers.

The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) spot rate gained strength and closed at Rs 5,600 per maund.

According to senior trader, Ghulam Rabbani, leading buyers were eager for fine grades and even paying slightly higher price on the back of growing demand of cloth and yarn and also as import was costly comparing to domestic price.

Some trading activity at the lower level was seen at cotton market on Tuesday as buyers were mostly reluctant anticipating fall in prices in the coming days.

However, spinners on their part were also cautious as they are not getting right price for cotton yarn as the market is sluggish and prices are under pressure. Trading remained restricted and limited as some needy mills lifted small lot deals,.

Ginners, who are holding very little stocks of around 240,000 bales, also seem to be in no hurry to dispose of their stocks at current price
