PTA price falls amid thin trading in Asia

Asian PTA markers fell US$6 a ton CFR China and Southeast CFR in the third week of November.

In China, a few cargoes changed hands at US$592-598 a ton, with discussions above US$600 a ton.

Yisheng Petrochemical’s offers were pegged at US$592-603 a ton through the week while Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offers in the range of US$620-630 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices slipped in Asian market on bearish sentiment and thin trading.

MEG prices plunge amid surplus stock in Asia

Asian MEG prices fell US$17 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the third week of November.

In China, values fell to US$550-555 a ton in the first half of the week, and later surged by US$5-10 in line with rebounding crude oil values.

In the H2 of the week, prices were corrected to below US$570 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined in Asian markets on negative outlook and surplus stock, triggering short-selling.

No support is expected from cost or demand side, with expectation of lower run rates at downstream polyester plants.

Blended yarn price declines in China and Pakistan

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices fell US cents 2 a kg in the third week of November while 45s PC combed yarn prices were stable.

Blended yarn prices declined on the week in China, depending on products.

With colder weather looming, demand for fine count yarns is likely to remain depressed whereas sales of low counts could rebound.

In Pakistan, PC yarn price remained stable while weak currency pegged values down in US$ term.

Polyester yarn prices stable to down in Asia

In Qianqing, offers for 32s polyester yarn were down US cents 2-3 a kg in the second week of November.

Spun polyester yarn markets were mixed that week despite prices did not change in the first week while offers were adjusted lower and sporadic deals were concluded.

In China, polyester yarn markets were looking for a direction, although signs are emerging of a new decline in the coming period.

Export were also sluggish and cheaper prices offered by importers for lower counts usually attracted processors.

PTA price slips after recent gains

Asian PTA marker fell US$3 a ton CFR China and Southeast CFR in the second week of November.

In China, selling indications for cargoes held steady at above US$600 a ton throughout the week with discussions slipping to US$600-605 a ton from US$610 a ton earlier in the week.

Yisheng Petrochemical’s offers were pegged at US$640 a ton throughout this week while Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offers in the range of US$635-640 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices slipped in Asian markets amid bearish sentiment and thin trading.

MEG price slips in Asia while rose in Europe

Asian MEG markers fell US$25 a ton CFR China and Southeast Asia CFR in the second week of November.

In China, central prices slipped below US$600 a ton, with some deals done at low levels.

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined in Asian markets as bearish outlook triggered short-selling amid weak PET and polyester markets. However, issues at Nan Ya MEG plant stemmed price fall.

In China, environmental regulations in Suzhou pushed MEG markets on a downslide.

Blended yarn price falls in India

In India, 30s (65/35) PV yarn prices were down US cents 3 a kg in the second week of November (due to weak INR) in Indore market.

In Ludhiana, PC 30s (52/48) prices also fell US cents 3 on the week.

Cotton-polyester yarn prices remained unchanged in India but weak currency was advantageous for exporters as prices in US$ terms moderated.

However, export demand was slowing down, particularly from China where the market was almost saturated.

Polyester yarn price rolls over in China while declines in India

In the first week of November, offers of spun polyester yarns in China were stable with mainstream offers for 32s and 45s rolling over in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with the latter seeing better sales than other specs.

In Qianqing, offers were range bound and the transaction volume was not large enough.

Spinners fear a possible decline in export demand, particularly from the US thus, traders had no intention to build up inventories either.

PTA price regains in Asia

In the first week of November, Asian PTA marker partially regained US$9 a ton both CFR China and Southeast CFR.

In China, suppliers kept offers unchanged, and sellers held back selling interest at below US$600 a ton.

Yisheng Petrochemical kept daily cash-based price for PTA unchanged at US$640 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offers at US$630-635 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices rose in Asian markets that week to end at a two-week high as plant shutdowns limited availability while rebound was seen as limited amid weakness downstream.

MEG price edges up in China

Asian MEG markers were up US$1 a ton CFR China in the first week of November.

In China, offers for nearby-month cargoes were at US$630-635 a ton, and counter offers were at US$625 a ton, with discussions at US$625-630 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices edged up on the week in Asian markets amid stable discussion and modest operating rates at downstream polyester plants.

In US, MEG spot prices remained stable on the week amid tight supply due to turnarounds and a force majeure while exporters turned focus to Europe and Latin America.
