PTA price dips in Asia

Asian PTA prices gave back US$3 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast in the fourth week of March. Purified terephthalic acid prices dipped a bit that week in Asian markets on weaker sentiment, particularly in North East.

In China, PTA market moved down further that week despite major producers Hengli Petrochemical and Yisheng Dahua announcing turnarounds at their Dalian plants, beginning 25 March in early-April, respectively, for two weeks. Meanwhile, declining paraxylene prices eased cost support to PTA markets.

MEG price dips amid poor demand

Asian MEG prices plummeted US$65 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the fourth week of March. Mono ethylene glycol prices plummeted on the week due to weak downstream demand, while domestic prices in China also followed suit. In China, domestic market was weak with prices under downward correction. Trading sentiment was moderate amid weak buying interest.

Blended yarn price inches down in India

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices rolled over in the fourth week of March while 45s PC combed yarn prices were steady on the week.

Blended yarn markets in China reflected the decline in cost of fibres including cotton, PSF and VSF. Domestic yarn production has become more competitive compared with import, meaning that prices could stay at the current level. PC yarn prices rolled over at lower levels explaining the fall in PSF prices.

Polyester yarn price dips in China, stable in India

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn fell US cents 5 a kg in the third week of March. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving yarn offers were down US cents 7 a kg on the week.

Polyester spun yarn offers of some specs in China were lowered further amid lackluster demand and trading sentiment. Prices moved down as well on the back of sporadic transactions and in line with falling PSF prices that week. Since it is still in a slack season, demand will remain lackluster.

PTA price inches up on high feedstock cost

Asian PTA prices gained US$1 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia marker in the third week of March. Yisheng Petrochemical’s selling price edged up from US$8 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical kept its price unchanged.

Purified terephthalic acid prices inched up on the week alongside higher feedstock paraxylene prices and signs of a slight rebound in downstream. In China, PTA market was under fluctuation and correction that week. At the beginning of the week, PTA was slightly weak but as crude oil values surged unexpectedly midweek, PTA prices at the lower end rebounded slightly.

Asian MEG prices declined US$23 a ton CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the second week of March. In China, prices went down from US$45 a ton during the week.

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined on the week on weak downstream demand as polyester producers skipped buying on ample supply. Meanwhile, traders were heard halting short-selling. Iran's Farsa Chimie plans to restart its 450,000 ton a year MEG plant in Assaluyeh by end March, after it remained shut since mid-February.

In Shengze, offers for 32s polyester yarn fell US cents 7 a kg in the second week of March. In Qiangqing, 32s weaving yarn offers were down US cents 4 a kg on the week.

Polyester spun yarn offers moved down on the back of poor sentiment in China. Prices weakened in line with fall in PSF cost that week, while the enquiring and trading sentiment was thin. As the market enters slack season, and bottom price is yet unclear, yarn producers saw small orders to meet rigid demand.

PTA price falls in Asia

Asian PTA prices declined US$26 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the second week of March. Yisheng Petrochemical’s selling price dropped US$20 a ton while Hengli Petrochemical adjusted self-lifting offers by US$15 a ton.

Purified terephthalic acid prices declined further in Asian markets on lower sentiment, particularly in Northeast Asia. In China, May 2017 PTA futures on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange fell, capping a week that saw sharp falls by weekend close.

Blended yarn prices stable to up in Asia

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices rolled over in the second week of March while 45s PC combed yarn prices were up on the week.

Blended spun yarn price remained firm across Asian markets and were moving into different directions in China. Although PSF prices were down in all markets, cotton prices firmed up prompting spinners to blend fibres to remain cost effective.

In Pakistan, PC and PV yarns pries were firm being supported by a relatively higher level of demand. VSF prices have however climbed due to rise in seasonal demand as more spinning mills started producing PV yarns.
