The CCI to use the warehouses of Central Warehousing Corporations on a pay-and-use basis

P. Alli Rani, Chairman and Managing Director of CCI, told that the Cotton Corporation would need space in 500 to 600 warehouses. The Cotton Corporation purchased 3.6 lakh bales of cotton at MSP (minimum support price) during the current cotton season (October 2017 to September 2018). However, with the steep hike in MSP for cotton, the CCI might have to purchase huge quantities next season (October 2018 to November 2019).

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for Kharif Crops of 2015-16 season. The decision is based on recommendations of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) for the Price Policy for Kharif Crops for the Marketing Season 2015-16.

This year Gujarat is expected to produce 1.20 crore bales of cotton. Each year, it exports cotton bales to China as well as other nations. Moreover, owing to bumper produce of cotton in these countries, export of cotton bales has taken a hit.

The Gujarat government on Monday announced relief of R1,100 crore for farmers, including R500 crore relief in electricity bills and R600 crore relief in interest on short-term loan through 50% waiver. Over and above this, the state extended R700 crore assistance to farmers during the ongoing statewide Ravi Krishi Mahotsav.
