The Ministry of Industry and Trade in a bid to improve quality of products is enhancing partnerships with local textile and apparel sector. The partnership between the government and private sector is aimed at fast-tracking the ‘Buy Kenyan, Build Kenya’ initiative, said CS Adan Mohame, Cabinet Secretary industry investment and trade during the second SME FEST held on 21 Marsh in KICC Nairobi.

The Vietnamese textile industry to reduce costs and improve competitiveness, the domestic textile enterprises should work together with logistics service providers. The costs of logistics currently account for nearly one-third of the costs of each textile product exported, so the Vietnamese garment sector could save more than US$1 billion per year by reducing this cost, according to experts.

Nguyen Tuong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Association, said that the textile industry needs to import raw materials from abroad and export products to foreign markets.

Vietnam’s textile and garment exports grew in the first half of this year, but local firms face difficulties in obtaining production and export contracts for the second half of 2016, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT). To support local firms, MoIT has proposed the development of large textile and garment industrial zones (IZs) on 500 – 1000 hectare to attract local and foreign investment in dyeing, and fabric and yarn production.

With the signing of TPP and VN-EU FTA and once the agreement takes effect, Vietnamese garment and textile industry is expected to grow 50 percent in the first year and 20 percent in the following year, according to the Trade Promotion Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

To take advantage of opportunities from free trade agreements such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and VN-EU Free Trade Agreement many foreign firms have recently sped up investment in garment and textile industry in Vietnam.
