The textile cluster move, which was mooted in the Union Budget 2014-15, was announced by Pratap Simha, Mysuru MP, at the National Vendors’ Meet which began in the city on Saturday. The project will receive Rs. 50 crore by way of central grant and an additional 25 acres of land is being identified for expansion of the cluster.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be registered under the Companies Act for its implementation and funding.

Gujarat government to further develop skills in the textile industry, another important industry in Surat after diamonds, is planning to set up a textile university in Surat which would help boost its textile sector.

Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel on Sunday at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of 2,000-acres Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City here announced the setting up a textiles university at the proposed smart city- DREAM City near Surat.

She asked textiles players to seek land in the proposed DREAM-city on the outskirts of the Surat city.

Union minister of state for textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar (BJP) and UP minister for textiles, Bhagwat Sharna Gangwar (SP) have come together to set up a mega textile cluster in Bareilly, the city with immense potential in the field of textile designing and manufacturing.

To implement this idea, both Gangwars want credit for their respective governments and urgently needs government intervention to tap the market.
