Indian textiles is spreading its roots in the global market not only with the famous Indian fabrics like pure cotton, tussar silk and khadi (hand-spun and hand-woven cloth), but also the Indian wool and weaving techniques, which is in the limelight from cashmere pashmina wool, mohair wool to the angora wool. Indian focus have been well known and admired across the world for their beauty, texture and craftsmanship.

Declining textile exports have prompted India to look outside traditional markets and tap the ones being served by competitors such as China. The textiles ministry of India is planning to do roadshows to promote textile exports in the new markets.

They used to hold roadshows in the past and wanted to approach new markets through these. They have identified Russia, South America and West Asia to boost exports.

The Union Budget 2015-16 has nothing for the Indian textile industry as it failed to consider the demands put forth by the industry. The industry has expressed disappointment over the budget announcements as the major demands have not been met.

The industry’s wish list submitted prior to the Budget announcement included:
Cut in duties to ensure that raw material costs, cost of converting raw material into finished goods as well as the tariff are less than or equal to international prices,
Reduction in excise duty from 12 per cent to 6 per cent, and

Textile import policies have made Indian textiles unfavorable for European customers. The government has told several European countries in recent discussions that their "skewed" due to import duty on its textiles which is nearly 10% and has asked European countries to waive import duty on its textiles, arguing that the quality of its cloth is better than that supplied by Pakistan and Bangladesh under zero duty.
