Traders urging to study the influence of GST on the textile sector

The FOSTTA office-bearers have stated that the production of man-made fabric has decreased from four crore meters per day to less than two crore meters, the sale of polyester fabric including sarees and dress material has decreased by almost 40% and that the export of finished fabrics has reduced by almost 28% in the last 10 months post-GST implementation, in a letter to Modi.

China is exploiting and entering the Indian market at cheap price by routing its yarn and finished fabrics through Bangladesh route giving a difficult time to the textile industries at home, comprising primarily of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), said Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal President PL Seth.

Seth said that since Bangladesh is exempted from paying any duty under the SAARC agreement, Chinese yarn and finished fabric is able to enter our markets through Bangladesh.

Globally, depreciation of the euro and the crisis in the eurozone, as well as plummet in international cotton prices has adversely affected export of home textiles and finished fabrics put a majority of home textile producers from Faisalabad in trouble. This is the second time in seven years that home textiles manufacturers from Faisalabad are in the midst of a crisis.

As overseas shipments of most home textiles has continued to slump over the last one year, a majority of home textiles producers are compelled to significantly cut their production and some to shut their shop.

Textile entrepreneurs from the country's biggest man-made fabric (MMF) hub of Surat are concern over the rising crude oil price and imposing of the anti dumping duty on polyester yarn.
 
Rise in crude oil price in Asia due to continuous violence in Iraq, yarn manufacturers have increased the prices of yarn by Rs 4 per kilogram. While with the anti-dumping duty on polyester yarn, the basic raw material for Surat’s MMF sector, the local weavers in the powerloom sector has to heavily depend on domestic manufacturers.
