H&M will trial sales of second-hand and vintage clothes as it seeks to tap into consumers' growing concerns about the environmental cost of fast fashion, its head of sustainability said on Friday.

Anna Gedda told Reuters H&M would launch a pilot in Sweden for online sales of second-hand garments on the site of its & Other Stories brand, with the aim of extending the scheme to other markets and brands in years to come.

Fast fashion - If you’re asked to name high-emitting industries, one important contributor and very mandatory product might not quickly come to mind: clothing. The fashion industry contributes roughly 10 per cent of all global greenhouse gas emissions because of its energy-intensive production and long-supply chain, according to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Fast fashion, inexpensive clothing produced quickly at a mass-market level, is a particularly guilty culprit.

Japan's biggest and most professional clothing and textiles fair, the 26th edition of AFF-Tokyo 2015 which gathers together the country’s largest selection of ready-made garments, accessories, home-textiles, fabrics and auxiliary material to be held from October 21-23 at Sunshine City Culture Center.

The AFF expo was founded in 2003, the show is held once every spring in Osaka and once every autumn in Tokyo. The event attracts 300-400 exhibitors from China, Japan, Korea and their factories in Burma, Bangladesh, India and Cambodia.

Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M) is a Swedish multinational retail-clothing company, known for its fast-fashion on Thursday celebrated the opening of its new flagship on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, is the world’s largest at an impressive 57,000 square feet, with a full concierge shopping service. It’s also the first location in the New York area with an H&M home department.
