Apparel, a major segment in the textile value chain, has been left out of the reduction. Garment exporters in Tirupur are now urging the government to levy only 5% GST for job working units in the apparel segment.

Raja M Shanmugham, president, Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) said that as only services classified as 'job work in relation to yarn and fabrics of textiles' are eligible for the reduced rate of 5%. This negative step would cause huge hardship to several micro industries in textile clusters like Tirupur.

The 17th edition of Textile Asia – International Textile & Garments Machinery Trade Fair which is jointly organized by Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) and Ecommerce Gateway Pakistan opened today.

PRGMEA Chief Coordinator Shaikh Muhammad Shafiq stated that this trade fair is expected to be visited by 65,000 people from trade and corporate sector as well as more than 1,500 foreign delegates. The focus of this trade fair is value addition in Textile industry to increase the export of their value-added textile and garment products.

The 16th International Textile Asia Exhibition in collaboration with Ecommerce Gateway to be held in Lahore by the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) from 27th August. The trade fair is termed as the Punjab's biggest B2B textile, garment, embroidery and allied service.

PRGMEA is taking steps to boost export of value-added sector by bringing latest garment technology at door step and this activity is being done to facilitate the exporters of Faisalabad, Multan as well as Sialkot, said PRGMEA Chief Co-ordinator, Ijaz Khokhar.

Apparel is a new sector introduced by the Directorate of Education, Goa under the vocational education scheme and for the first time by class nine students of Government High School (GHS), Shigao Collem celebrated Apparel day.

On the occasion of Apparel Day, eighteen students showcased the work done by them this academic year in theory as well as practically through an exhibition.

There were many counters set for the exhibition; some were demonstration counters whereas others displayed students’ work.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Irene Isaac announced that the agency together with Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) will start developing the curriculum for a training program for the handloom weaving industry.
