Footwear demand to grow by 4% till 2023 in US

Even as trade war jitters and changes in sourcing have shaken the footwear industry in the United States and abroad, a new report claims the sector should still expect solid growth in demand over the next four years.

In its most recent batch of “Focus Reports,” The Freedonia Group, a division of MarketResearch.com, said the current footwear market will grow 4 percent in value, from $26.8 billion in 2018 to $32.6 billion in 2023. However, the growth will not be equally spread across categories.

Meeting organized by the World Wildlife Fund-Pakistan (WWF-P) and the Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) on Tuesday to discuss the efforts being made to produce certified organic cotton, which is currently being cultivated in Balochistan. Organic cotton being cultivated in the country will get certification from world agencies next year.

The transformation will take place under the supervision of WWF-P and a certified verifying body, which will inspect the crop’s quality.

Bangladesh has impose ban on export of raw jute since November 2 last year, but as jute millers of the Himalayan nation have urged Bangladesh to help their local industry, the Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday said that the government will export raw jute to Nepal..

The exports will be on a case-to-case basis and as per the demand from the businesses of Nepal, Ahmed said.

The minister spoke at a meeting with a Nepalese business delegation at his secretariat in Dhaka.

Rise in India’s textile and garment export in May accredited to apparel segment

India’s overall textile and garment exports witnessed 20 percent in May, of which export of textile products grew at a much slower pace than that of garments. While apparel shipments gained 24.9% in May, textile exports grew by just 8.6% due to apparel segment’s outstanding performance at shows following a spur demand in the US market as well as a weak rupee.

The State-owned jute mills of Khulna-Jessore industrial belt in Bangladesh has witnessed sharp decline in jute goods exports due to lack of demand in global market, particularly because of political instability in major importing countries.

The Jute mills registered 38.65 percent decline in export of jute goods in the just concluded fiscal compared to its preceding fiscal.
