Cotton Made in Africa (CmiA) is an initiative of the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) that helps African smallholder cotton farmers in Africa to improve their living conditions works with 67 spinning mills, ginned 700,000 tons of cotton for use textile production. International conference on African textile industry to be held in Addis Ababa for three days starting from October 19, 2015, which will give an opportunity for the country to display the potential it has in the textile and garment sector and bring in foreign investors and buyers as well.

The participants at the conference will be investors engaged in cotton, textile, tailoring and stakeholders that support the sustainability of the growth of the sector, a press release issued by Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute stated.

The Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) following successful verification in accordance with the Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) sustainability standard would cooperate with the Ethiopian Cotton Producers, Exporters and Ginners Association (ECPGEA) and would now be involved in sustainable cotton farming in the North-Western Ethiopia and will provide support to more than 9,000 smallholder farmers to produce more eco cotton that attract interest from labels abroad.
