Maharashtra state government is working on a niche policy to promote investments in the garment and apparel sector, considering its job creation potential and boost its ‘Make in Maharashtra’ plans. The policy will focus on setting up garment and apparel units in the cotton-growing areas of Vidarbha and Marathwada, which are also known for agrarian distress and farmer suicides.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis laid foundation stone for starting additional facilities for Textile Park in Nandgaon Peth MIDC, Amravati. Fadnavis announced that on the lines of Nandgaonpeth, eight more textile parks would be set up at Yavatmal, Buldana, Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed and Nanded.

Admitting that farmer suicides were reported mostly from the cotton-growing areas, he said that his government gives special priority to providing irrigation facilities and setting up cotton processing units in these areas.
