Getting consumers to take a leap of faith on a direct-to-consumer product is no small feat. Without that hands-on retail experience, how do you convince a shopper that your seams are as strong and your fabric as soft as you’re promising?

Global jeans brand Wrangler has started its new The Wrangler Rooted Collection, a limited edition premium jeans capsule meant to support US sustainably grown cotton in five Southern states. Each piece–the Alabama Jean, the Georgia Jean, the North Carolina Jean, the Tennessee Jean and the Texas Jean–uses fabrics made with cotton grown, milled, then cut and sewn in the United States and treated with a unique wash, as well as trim and patch details featuring the state’s silhouette and other embellishments.

Although Nike has recalled its “Betsy Ross” American flag sneakers, shoppers looking for flag-adorned clothing in stores will have plenty of other options, even though the popular trend is technically illegal.

Nike had intended to release a pair of Air Max 1 Quick Strike sneakers for the Fourth of July that featured a 13-star flag, commonly linked to Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross, but said Tuesday it halted distribution ”... based on concerns that it could unintentionally offend and detract from the nation’s patriotic holiday.”
