MP textile mills hit hard by high cost of production, drop in exports

Madhya Pradesh has about 45 textile mills of which 35 are spinning mills and 10 are composite mills are facing high rise in cost of production by about 10-15 percent due to higher cotton prices, power tariff and labour wages followed by drop in exports due to subdued demand from the top buyer China and sluggish European economy, all this squeezing margins of textile mills and making them uncompetitive in the global market.

FBR pulls out sales tax zero-rating facility from certain textile units

The sales tax zero-rating facility that was allowed to the registered manufacturers and exporters of five leading sectors including textile, leather, carpets, surgical and sports goods with a view to facilitate exports. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has withdrawn it which was available to certain textile sector units on the supply of electricity and gas for not meeting the criteria.

The 13th Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition (DTG 2016) called the ‘mini ITMA of South Asia, the largest exhibition of Bangladesh’s textile and garment industry machinery to be held this month.

The event is jointly organized by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), Chan Chao International, and Yorkers Trade and Marketing Service.
DTG 2016 will represent more than 1,000 world class leading brands from 32 countries and regions, a media release from the organisers said.

Surat traders of man-made fabrics (MMF) including saris and dress material are still facing the heat from southern markets, especially Chennai and Andhra Pradesh due to the recent devastating floods. In this new year, traders were gearing up for good business from the north. But, the transporters' strike has come at a wrong time, said Devkishan Manghani, chairman textile committee of South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI).

India’s cotton export sees robust growth

India’s cotton fibre export was at 214 million kg or 1,263,835 bales (of 170 kg each) in November 2015 valued at US$291 million and witnessed a robust growth of 166 per cent from October numbers.

The average unit price realization was at US$1.36 a kg, down US cents 10 from October.

Pakistan and Bangladesh were the largest importers of cotton with combined volumes at 950,000 bales amongst the 17 countries that imported cotton from India.

Exports of manmade fibre were at 14.7 million kg, worth US$22 million. These included ASF, PSF, VSF and PPSF.

India’s polyester-viscose yarn export tumbles

In November 2015, US$12.7 million worth of PV yarns were exported from India with volumes at 4.8 million kgs. Also, blended spun yarns export was down 3.7 per cent YoY in value terms while volumes were down 7 per cent.

Turkey and Iran continued to be largest importers of PV yarns from India with total volume at 3.5 million kg worth at US$9 million.

Portugal, Slovenia and Russia were the new major market for PV yarn.

Eight countries did not import any PV yarn during the month, including the major ones like Brazil, Chile and Lebanon.

India’s polyester-cotton yarn export continue to fall

In November 2015, 6.6 million kg of PC yarns was exported worth US$16.3 million. Meanwhile, blended spun yarns export was down 3.7 per cent YoY in value terms while volumes were down 7 per cent.

Egypt and Bangladesh were the largest importers of PC yarn from India in November followed by Argentina.

Bangladesh, Argentina, Peru and USA were the fastest growing markets for PC yarns while Brazil significantly reduced its import of PC yarns from India.

Chile and South Africa were among the 12 countries that did not import any PC yarns from India during November.

Viscose yarn export sees a decline

Viscose yarn export was valued at US$4.23 million or INR27 crore and volume at 1.42 million kg, implying average unit price realization of US$2.97 per kg in November 2015.

They were exported to 20 countries with Belgium at the top worth US$1.14 million. It was followed by Bangladesh with imports worth US$0.64 million. Both these markets accounted for 42 per cent of all viscose yarn exported in November.

Egypt, Bangladesh, Germany and Portugal were the fastest growing markets for viscose yarns while Algeria was the new major market.

AEPC to organize BSM in Uruguay and Chile with 25 exhibitors at each venue

The Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Commerce have approved the funding under Market Access Initiative for the proposed buyer-seller meet (BSM) to be organized by the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) in Uruguay and Chile with 25 exhibitors at each venue, a council release said.

The BSM is being organized after taking into account the huge potential for export of readymade garments from India, the council noted.

TN handloom and textiles dept launches E-com site for Loom World concept

Tamil Nadu Minister of Handlooms and Textiles Gokula Indira launched new e-commerce site for its Loom World concept, It is the Department's effort to get on the e-commerce bandwagon and market its Loom World concept that will permit individual Handloom Weavers’s cooperative societies to sell their products separately.

Loom World as a concept has been around for a while but it is not as widespread as Cooptex, which is the marketing cooperation for all Cooperative Societies, said a senior department official.
