Wool price declines in NZ on strong currency, shrinking demand from China

An increase in the kiwi dollar made New Zealand’s exports less attractive which led to a decline in wool prices of the country.

Clean 35-micron wool prices, a benchmark for crossbred wool used for carpets and accounting for the majority of New Zealand's production, dipped to $5.74 a kg, down $0.21 a kg at yesterday's combined North and South Island wool auctions, as compared to $5.95 a kg last week.

Lamb wool slipped to $7.14 a kg, down $0.11 from $7.25 a kg last week.

PTA price falls on surplus inventory amid thin trade

Asian PTA markers inched down US$6 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast in the third week of January.

In China, several parcels of bonded goods on one-day trip were traded at US$536-538 a ton midweek.

Yisheng Petrochemical’s cash-based daily prices were down US$10 on the week while Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offers at US$560-565 a ton, down US$5.

Purified terephthalic acid prices moderated a bit in Asian markets on surplus inventory amid thin trade. Meanwhile, buyers were heard to have lowered their bids further amid falling PET and polyester prices.

Polyester yarn price dips in India on weak currency

In India, polyester yarn 30 knitting yarns prices in the third week of January were down US cents 6 a kg, due to weak INR, in Ludhiana market while they fell US cents 4 a kg in Indore, also due to weak INR.

In Ludhiana, prices have again lost INR2 on the week or about 6 cents per kg, as the INR was eventually sliding.

In Qianqing, offers for 32s polyester yarn prices rolled over on the week, and those for 45s remained unchanged.

Cotton arrivals in India decline by 19pc on weak demand, stock holding

The total seasonal arrival of cotton in India has dropped by 19% so far this year as compared to arrivals during the same period last year and this is because of the dull demand from domestic mills and increased holding capacity among farmers.

By the end of January 2016, the country's total seasonal cotton arrival was about 17.02 million bales (a bale of 170 kg) as compared to 21 million bales by the end of January 2015.

However, as compared to the total estimated cotton production of 36 million bales, the arrivals of 17.02 million bales forms around 47% of the output.

ASF prices stable in China, India while down in Pakistan

Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow prices rolled over at US$1.60-1.70 a kg while offers for regular products were partially at US$1.56-1.60 a kg in China.

In China, medium-length staple fiber prices were at US$1.78-2.00 a kg while cotton-type staple was at US$1.79-2.00 a kg, both rolling over from the second week.

Jilin Chemical Fiber maintained its list prices for January with 1.5D and 3D medium-length at US$2.00-2.01 a kg, while tow was at US$2.09 a kg and top at US$2.24 a kg.

Acrylonitrile prices plunge amid dull demand

Asian acrylonitrile marker, the CFR Far East Asia declined US$85 a ton in the third week of January.

In China, offers for offshore cargoes fell US$150 a ton CFR China from previous week. In East China, domestic prices stood US$974-$987 a ton on an import parity basis.

Acrylonitrile prices in Asian markets declined sharply on weaker demand and falling Chinese domestic prices falling for successive days.

ACN suppliers in China continued to cut spot offers that week resulting in wait-and-see sentiment dominating the market.

Cotton exports of India likely to rise to 70 lakh bales in 2015-16 season

India’s cotton exports during the previous cotton season, which begins from October 1, stood at 57.72 lakh bales. During the 2015-16 season, cotton exports are expected to rise by 21.27 per cent to 70 lakh bales (170 kg each) mostly due to rise in demand from Pakistan, a senior official said today.

Textile Commissioner Kavita Gupta said that this year, Pakistan will overtake Bangladesh as the top importer of Indian cotton as the demand in Pakistan has grown due to crop damage in Punjab region. Almost 33 percent of cotton crop in Pakistan has been damaged from whitefly.

Pakistan likely to see a fall in cotton consumption to 2.2 million tons, a decline by 12 percent this year, by consuming 2.2 million tons of cotton it would be exporting around $13 billion of textile products. This was revealed in the monthly cotton update by the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).

Govt to work on simplifying procedures to boost exports

Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman after a meeting with export promotion councils (EPCs) in New Delhi on Tuesday said that the government will work with various departments including environment, textiles and finance to simplifying procedures towards improving the ease of doing business in the country and boost exports.

Many of the issues which are enablers to better exports have been identified, issues which may have a bearing on the forthcoming budget were also raised, she said.
