Apparel exporters to get reimbursement for state levies next week onwards

The Textiles Ministry securing Rs 500 crore from the Finance Ministry will now start reimbursing Apparel and garment exporters for the state levies paid by them, a top official said. The reimbursement will start from next week onwards

In June last year, the government had approved a Rs 6,000 crore special package for textiles and apparel sector to create one crore new jobs in 3 years, attracting investments of $11 billion and generating $30 billion in exports.

The silk industry in Laguindingan seeing rise in local demand in the recent months aims to upgrade its resources and silk weaving skills among weavers. They are looking at recruiting more silk weavers and upgrade the skills of the regular weavers to cope with the demand, said Judy Aclan, development specialist of the Department of Trade and Industry in Misamis Oriental.

The Pakistan government has been urged by the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) to abolish 0.25 percent Export Development Surcharge which is deducted from export proceeds.

Pakistan Apparel Forum Chairman Jawed Bilwani speaking during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry, chaired by Member National Assembly (MNA) Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari at the PHMA House, said that they believe the surcharge on exports must be abolished as this will help exporters to use cash liquidity for enhancing the exports.

The Telangana State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society (TSCO) is planning to set up a Handloom Heritage Centre (HHC) at Karwan. Spread over 5,000 square yards, the HHC will be equipped with handlooms of different patterns, including Pochampally, Gadwal and Narayanpet, to mention a few.

The objective is to showcase the art and hard-work of weavers in weaving a saree. The next generation should learn about weaving and its history. The estimated cost of the project will be to the tune of Rs 3 crore. It will be an exhibition-cum-sale centre, said TSCO General Manager P Yadagiri.

At cotton market, trading activity took a slow pace on Tuesday as the ginners raised asking prices in anticipation of getting better rates and in expectation of attractive profit in the coming days. The official spot rate also remained unchanged at Rs 6375, dealers said.

In Sindh, seed cotton prices were at Rs 3000-3300, while in Punjab, phutti rates stayed put at Rs 3200 and Rs 3550, as per 40 kg.

According to market sources, trading activity came under pressure since the week started in the absence of fresh leads.
