China’s textile, garment exports via ports in Xinjiang rise

The China-proposed Belt and Road initiative and regional economic development, Xinjiang, which borders eight countries and boasts 29 national ports, has grown into a trading hub for garments.

According to the latest statistics released by Urumqi Customs, China has exported 16.57 billion yuan (about 2.5 billion U.S. dollars) worth of textiles and garments through ports in Xinjiang,

Textile and garment exports to Central Asia and Russia via ports in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have increased by more than 60 percent from the same period last year.

An 110,000-spindle plant backed by investment of 350 million yuan ($57 million) kicked off construction in Hutubi county. It is the third plant Henan Xinye Textile Co Ltd will have established in Xinjiang in the past 12 months. The three plants will employ 3,000 people in 3-5 years.

Understanding the potential for cotton production in Xinjiang and the vast market in central Asia, the company purchased a bankrupt textile company in Hutubi county last January.

China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region prime cotton-growing area, which produces about 60 percent of China's cotton on less than 40 percent of the country's cotton-growing land, aims to create 1 million jobs in the textile industry within the next decade. To support its textile industry has decided to pump 20 billion yuan (about 3.2 billion U.S. dollars) fund.
