Bangladesh registers healthy export earnings during July-Nov period

Bangladesh registered healthy export earnings of 13.73 percent totaling $2,749.34 million in this November against $2,417.43 million fetched during the corresponding period last year which is attributed mainly to moderate performance of knitwear, woven garment, jute and jute-made goods, agricultural and leather products.

The Tirupur Exporters’ Association, with the support of Indian Embassy in Tokyo, Japanese government and various trade bodies in Japan and India, would be organising a three-day India Trend Fair in Tokyo from October 27, in an attempt to promote the Indian textile products.

The knitwear exports from India continue to be low with a market share in knitwear imports in Japan standing at a mere 0.3 percent of the total knitwear products imported by Japan in 2014 and the share in the case of woven garment at 1.45 percent despite enjoying duty free access to Japan.

Pakistan eyeing bigger share of global textile market, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has notified new rates of duty drawback on export of textile and allied products. According to notification (SRO754 of 2014) issued on Tuesday, the new rates will be effective from Aug 21.

The FBR has also issued another notification to allow new rates of duty drawback to exporters retrospectively from Jan 1 as well.
In the current budget, the Pakistan government announced textile package to be effective from July 1 to provide relief for the textile exporters.

Pakistan although granted with GSP Plus status has shown less increase in exports than non-GSP Plus India is not a good portent for Pakistan. India having graduated out of even GSP status that provides some relief in duties than the normal EU tariff as yet show remarkable growth in value-added exports to the EU in the first three months of 2014, said Pakistani experts concerned over Indian growth in textile exports to EU.
